Dorokhsh — Persia

Dorokhsh rugs were produced in the Dorokhsh hills in Southern Khorasan, Iran. The province was often known as Mountainous Land. The rich soil of the valley and the common rainfall makes the soil of the region rich, lending to good natural dyestuffs on Dorokhsh palettes.

These rugs are known for their substanstial size and often contain crimson, beige and dark blue as the dominant colors.

Secondary colors include Pistachio, dark green, olive, ivory, cream, camel, and yellows. The area’s rug weavers also use pink, purple, and red. These Persian rugs are made mostly with wool on wool and the knot counts are often fine with higher KPSI.
